Greasing the Speedometer Drive on the Cavalcade

Grab the drive gear with channelocks and, while twisting it, pull it out past the seal.

NOTE! This can be VERY difficult depending on how cruddy the drive is. It might help to spray some lube around the seal to help it come out.

This shows the drive gear pulled out. It also shows the washer that goes on before the drive gear.

Sometimes the washer stays inside the drive. Be careful not to lose it.

Wash the inside of the drive out well with some spray brake cleaner and blow it dry with compressed air.

Pack the unit with grease by forcing grease between the seal and the housing. It doesn't have to be clear full but try and get as much grease in there as you can.

Grease the drive gear include the inside bore.

Put the washer back in and then reinstall the drive gear by pushing it past the seal while twisting it.
This shows the drive gear back in place.
