Greasing the Speedometer Drive on the Cavalcade

Reinstall the cleaned drive plate.

Reinstall the washer.

Reinstall the wire snap ring and wipe off the excess grease.

When reinstalling the drive on the bike, make sure that the washer is in place between the left fork leg and the drive.

NOTE! If you have rotor covers, this washer is not used.

If your washer is missing, a 5/8" SAE washer is a suitable replacement.

Make sure that the drive tangs of the drive plate have engaged with the slots in the wheel.

When the axle nut is fully tight, there should be at least some slight space between the hex of the nut and the fork leg and axle clamp. It doesn't have to be much (even a few thousandths of an inch), but the nut must not dig into either fork or the axle clamp.

If it does, it will pull the forks together and cause extra sticktion and cause excessive wear in the slider bushings.

The order of tightening is:
1) axle nut
2) axle clamp
3) brace bolts
